- Abstract
- The paper presents the results of complex crystallographic, mineralogical and U-Pb (ID-TIMS) geochronological studies of wiliuite from akhtarandite rocks of the Siberian trap province. The crystallochemical characteristics of the boron-bearing variety of vesuvianite group minerals (VGM) are studied and described in detail in the aim to identify specific features that allow them to be used as geochronometer minerals. The obtained U-Pb age estimate (250±1 Ma) in good agreement with the age of the Erbeyek massif formation during the process Siberian traps and indicates the fundamental possibility of using wiliuite to obtain reliable geochronological information of the age of contact-reaction processes. The stability of the U-Pb system of wiliuite during alteration processes widely manifested in this region is demonstrated. Based on the research results, the studied wiliuite sample is recommended for use as a natural single-matrix reference material for U-Pb geochronological studies of vesuvianite group minerals.
